Simple iPhone Video Hacks for Better Everyday Content
Let’s be honest: most of us are walking around with a high-quality camera in our back pocket—and we barely scratch the surface of what it can do.
As much as we love producing full-on video sessions for our clients, we also know there’s huge value in being able to capture good content between sessions. Whether you’re a maker, service provider, creative, or content creator, using your iPhone well can seriously level up your brand presence.
So here are a few of our favorite low-effort, high-impact iPhone video hacks:
1. Clean your lens (yes, really)
It sounds silly, but a quick wipe of your camera lens before recording can make a world of difference. Your phone lives in your bag, your hands, your pocket—smudges are inevitable. A clean lens = sharper, more professional-looking footage.
2. Shoot in natural light whenever possible
Window light is your best friend. Aim to shoot in soft, even light (early morning or late afternoon tends to be best). Avoid direct harsh sun unless you’re intentionally going for a bold, dramatic look.
3. Use gridlines to frame your shot
Turning on the grid in your camera settings helps with composition. It makes it easier to center your subject, keep horizons straight, and follow the “rule of thirds” for more dynamic framing.
4. Lock your focus and exposure
Tap and hold on your screen where you want the camera to focus. This locks the focus and exposure so it doesn’t shift mid-recording. Super helpful if your subject is moving or you’re filming a longer clip.
5. Keep it steady
Shaky video is distracting. If you don’t have a tripod or stabilizer, prop your phone on a stack of books or lean it against something solid. Or—if you’re filming handheld—use both hands and anchor your elbows to your sides for support.
You don’t need fancy gear or editing software to make your everyday content feel more intentional. Just a few tweaks, a little attention to light, and your unique point of view. The rest? We’ve got you covered in your next video session.
