A brand session like Blackwood Living‘s is one like no other.
Christine knew the light would be best in the morning at Blackwood Farm in Hempstead, Texas. An early wake up call would be required for sunrise photos. Cath, owner of Blackwood Farm, invited Christine to spend the night in the bunkhouse to get an early start to the day. Never before have we spent the night at the photo shoot venue!
Houston brand session at Blackwood Living
The goal of the brand session at Blackwood was to capture all that the farm has to offer, from the year-round seasonal produce to the animal byproducts like eggs + honey. They also host weddings + events, and have an on-site catering company that utilizes all of the fresh produce from the farm to create their meals. A true farm to table experience!
We started in the Baleyfield House which is the main building on the property. It houses the kitchen, a common living space, sleeping space in the form of bunkbeds, and bedrooms, all which overlook the produce gardens. The interior of the home is beautifully furnished and is a balanced combination of chic and cozy. The very spacious back porch is perfect for gatherings, complete with a hammock and rocking chairs. Just outside the Baleyfield House, there is an outdoor pizza oven handmade by the team at Blackwood Living.
Amongst the other things to see at Blackwood, there is a commercial kitchen for Longspoon Catering, two rental cabins, beehives, a chicken coop, a pond, greenhouses, and a multipurpose building. The land spans over 33 acres, so there is plenty to do and see while you’re there.
Organic photography for an organic farm
Walking amongst a normal day at Blackwood Farm, we photographed things as they were happening; picking blackberries, feeding chickens, collecting eggs, making bread, pruning plants, and more. With styling from creative director Elizabeth Miller, this shoot nailed the vibe we were initially going for: organic, artful, elegant.
